But the River City has a lot more to offer. The unique culture and history of the Tennessee state make it a melting pot for things to do in Chattanooga and pulsating annual celebrations you don’t want to miss out on when you get there. 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival
Bring traditional and modern bluegrass, the classical music of the Appalachian region in the U.S is a time to meet your favorite traditional American root musicians like Yonder Mountain String Band, Dan Tyminski, Ricky Skaggs, and Del McCoury. The American root genre owes its origins to the Appalachian region, and since Chattanooga city is a big part of the area, you can bet they know how to party. The Downtown Riverfront festival, the other name for the 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival, is free for everyone every Fall.
Wine Over Water Food and Wine Festival
Another festival that comes to the Walnut Street Bridge every Fall is the Wine Over Water Food and Wine Festival. More than 100 wineries open up their best bottles on the bridge to a background of live music performances on the historic bridge. There’s a small entry fee to get a pass to the delightful evening festivities. Smaller events around the bridge go throughout the weekend, and all the proceeds go to the preservation of Chattanooga’s historical sites.
RiverRocks Festival
Celebrations aren’t only centered around music, food, and wine in the River City. The RiverRocks festival calls on all athletes in the state to compete and celebrate Chattanooga’s famed outdoor lifestyle. But no event in Chattanooga is complete without some music. Spectators get to enjoy live music performances while they wait on their favorites to win at one of the games. Sporting events during the celebrations include rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, running, biking, and paddling. Attendance is free, and just about anyone can sign up.
Rocktoberfest
October brings the Rocktoberfest to town courtesy of the city’s German heritage. It is a time to honor the founding father of the German culture in Chattanooga, Frieda Utermoehlen Carter. The celebrations have gone on for the last eight decades and take place at Rock City Square. There’s German music, beer, food, and polka lessons for everyone. You’ll have to pay a small admission fee.
